I had been searching for a less expensive alternative to Photoshop and I think I have found it. While I haven't used Photoshop myself, by all accounts the following software has comparable features all for FREE. They are Gimp.org and Paint.net. They can both be found at downloads.com.
You can create and manipulate photos, design web pages, logos and much more. You can add text, add gradient colors or add mulitple layers. Try it out and have fun!
